Public Record
Public records refer to the sources of information of credit reporting agencies. They obtain information from court records such as liens, bankruptcy filings and judgments. Public records are open to all. The information can also be obtained from corporate and property records. They are created by the government or by individual magazine subscriptions, voter registration etc.
Most of the public records are maintained by the government and are open to public either for free of cost or for some nominal charge as administration fee. The availability of these records is determined by federal, state and local regulations. Though public records are open for the public, their accessibility is not very easy. Many states like California have separate policies for governing the accessibility of the public information.
Several commercial enterprises put data -gathering services for sale and collect a nominal charge for the information provided by them. The well -established and popular names involved in data gathering services are Lexis.com, choicepoint.com, homeinfomax.com and crimcheck.com.
